The next book up for discussion is Year of Wonders; A Novel of the Plague by Geraldine Brooks. The year is 1666 and the bubonic plague has struck the tiny English village of Eyam. The local vicar and his congregation take a sacred oath to quarantine themselves until the illness is spent. Told through the eyes of the minister's housemaid, the author has captured the various human responses to grief, fear, hopelessness and exhaustion..
